Lawrences' head of Litigation, Ed Upenieks, was honoured with the Peel Law Association's 2017 Lifetime Achievement Award for "substantial contributions made to the practice of law in the local community."

The award was presented at the Peel Law Association's annual dinner.  In nominating Ed, retired Superior Court Justice A. D. K. MacKenzie commented:  "I have spent 47 years in the profession of law, 23 years at the Bar and 24 years on the Bench.  During this period, I have observed many members of the profession who have contributed to the betterment of the practice of law.  I can recall none of these persons who have matched the contribution of Ed Upenieks to the betterment of the practice of law and his community." Past Peel Law Association Lifetime Achievement Award winner, Rollie Willis, noted in his nomination that Ed is one of very few lawyers in Ontario "who practices in the area of assessments of accounts.  He has an outstanding reputation as an expert in this difficult and tricky area of law."
