Poorna Jayasena

Poorna Jayasena joins the Real Estate law group at Lawrences, bringing almost 17 years of experience. Before joining Lawrences, Poorna successfully managed her own legal practice for 16 years, building a loyal client base driven by a high rate of personal referrals. She has also briefly worked with a busy Toronto real estate and litigation law firm, further enhancing her skills. Beyond Real Estate, Poorna has valuable experience in Immigration Law, Wills and Estates, and Family Law.

At Lawrences, Poorna’s focus is Real Estate Law. She has extensive experience in representing clients for their purchases, sales, and refinance matters. She is adept at reviewing Agreements of Purchase and Sale, for new builds, or resale homes, including reviewing status certificates for condominium transactions.

Poorna also represents private lenders, both private individuals and institutions, for private mortgage transactions. She also assists clients with transfers of properties as part of estate planning or estate administration. She has experience in working on severances, minor variance applications, and registering cautions related to litigation matters. Poorna also reviews and/or prepares lease agreements, for both residential and commercial properties.

Prior to practicing in Canada, Poorna was an Attorney-at-Law in Sri Lanka, having attended the Sri Lanka Law College, and earning a degree in Engineering from the University of Peradeniya, Sri Lanka. Poorna requalified as a Barrister and Solicitor in Ontario, after completing the National Committee of Accreditation (NCA) Certificate through the University of Western Ontario.

Outside of the office, Poorna is deeply committed to community service, actively volunteering with the West End Buddhist Mission, staying closely connected to the Sri Lankan expatriate community through local cultural events, and is a passionate supporter of local animal shelters.

• Commercial Real Estate & Leasing: Advising clients on commercial property acquisitions and sales, as well as drafting and negotiating commercial leasing agreements.
• Immigration Advocacy: Assisting clients in successfully overcoming refused visitor visas for family members, helping reunite loved ones through strategic legal guidance.
• Co-Ownership & Cohabitation Planning: Structuring and drafting tailored co-ownership and cohabitation agreements to protect individuals investing in real estate together.
