A preserved lien is perfected by commencing an action to enforce the lien and registering a certificate of action, or by sheltering the claim under another claimant’s perfected lien. Sheltering is possible only in specific circumstances. It may be preferable to issue a statement of claim to perfect one’s own lien rights.
