Articling Experience Our articling students receive “hands on” experience in the various practice areas and are given the opportunity to learn from our lawyers how to resolve client matters on both a practical and legal basis. Students have the opportunity to meet with clients, draft legal documents, participate in commercial transactions and represent clients in court proceedings. Supervision Throughout the articling program, the student is assigned to a principal who ensures that the student receives appropriate work and is appropriately supervised. The student also receives supervision and guidance from the lawyers who assign work to the student. The principal also collects feedback from the lawyers who assign work to the student and provides periodic reports to the student. Hire-back We look for students who have strong academic skills, who demonstrate an ability to communicate with clients and who are able to provide both practical and legal solutions to clients in an efficient manner. The hire-back decision largely depends on the requirements of the firm at the end of the articling period. Lawrences is committed to growth and we look to our articling program as an important contributor to our growth. In fact, most of the lawyers who currently practice at Lawrences articled with the firm. Salaries and Benefits Salaries are competitive with salaries offered by similar law firms in the area. Articling students receive two weeks of paid vacation, parking, personal health insurance and life insurance. Firm Functions Lawrences organizes a variety of social and promotional events over the course of the year. Our students are invited to attend and participate in such activities. Our firm organizes regular internal seminars where students are able to meet with lawyers and discuss legal and business issues in an informal setting. Lawrences has an open door policy and a relaxed atmosphere. Students are encouraged to ask questions and meet with experienced counsel as the need arises.
